Grievous means of something very bad, very severe or serious. It also has grief in it, which means to cause great distress to someone, to feel grief for or because of someone.
When we talk negatively to ourselves saying that we aren’t good enough, pretty enough, bold enough, prepared enough, smart enough, or when we say we are too much, too loud, too outspoken, too quiet, too impatient; all of these thoughts are grievous ways. All of these thoughts are preventing us from being all that God created us to be. And they grieve the Holy Spirit.
The next time one of these negative thoughts about yourself come into your mind, rebuke it and combat it with something the Word says about who you are in Him:
I am chosen
I am wholly loved
I was knit together in my mothers womb
I am the righteousness of God
I am the head and not the tail
I am more than a conqueror
I am a daughter of the one true King!
